After five years of being in a long distance relationship, I am happy to say that starting in early July, my soon-to-be husband, Andy and I will be able to live together. I am so very excited, not only to be with him but also to recover my inner domestic goddess and share the journey with friends.
It's cheesy because it's true.
In any case, I am a Ph.D student in Women's Studies at Emory University. I am writing my dissertation on how four women novelists from the 1940s and 1950s (Ann Petry, Dorothy West, Jo Sinclair, and Hariette Arnow) address citizenship. I am not concerned with formal citizenship, but how notions of ideal citizenship implicate issues of gender, race, class, sexuality, and so forth. I have a chapter on domesticity and motherhood, so I think it will be fun to document my experience with real domesticity alongside a historical and literary study.
